Baby’s First Bath
Welcoming a newborn into the world is a beautiful and exciting experience. One of the first milestones is giving your baby their first bath. It can be a daunting task, but with a little preparation and knowledge, baby’s first bath can be a special bonding moment for you and your newborn.
Newborn Bath Safety
First and foremost, safety is key.
- Never walk away from your baby during bath time.
 - Keep the water temperature at around body temperature, and continually monitor the temperature with your hands.
 - Be aware that faucets can be hot to touch after hot/warm water comes out of them. I
 - t’s also a good idea to have an extra set of hands the first time, as newborns are slippery!

Baby’s First Bath Tips
It’s important to note that your baby doesn’t need a bath more than every other day. In fact, it’s okay to even bathe your baby weekly. Your baby’s skin is very sensitive and prone to dryness from too much bathing. However, some babies associate bedtime routine with bathing, and their parents choose to bathe them nightly.
Bath Basics
When it comes to the actual bath, start by filling the tub/sink or whatever you are using with a few inches of warm water. Gently place your baby in the water, supporting their head and neck. Use a soft washcloth or sponge to clean your baby, being careful around the umbilical cord stump until it falls off. Always wash the face first and the genitals last. Rinse your baby with a cup or a handheld showerhead, and then wrap them in a soft towel.
Remember, your baby’s first bath is a special moment, but it’s also a learning experience. Don’t be afraid to ask for help or advice from your healthcare provider, a newborn care specialist or a trusted friend or family member. With a little practice, you’ll become a pro at giving your baby baths, and it will become a cherished part of your daily routine.
