How To Swaddle With A Miracle Blanket
The miracle blanket is one of our absolute favorite swaddles! They named it pretty accurately in our opinion. Almost any swaddle works for the first few weeks, but as babies grow older and bigger and stronger...they tend to break right out. If you aren’t familiar with newborns, they have a startle reflex combined with limited motor control. So if they have an arm that sneaks out of their swaddle, they are going to wake up when it starts moving involuntarily and hits them in the face! Newborn Sleep is So Fun.
When a baby isn’t swaddled tight enough, they will get frustrated and not sleep well. The miracle blanket not only keeps the baby swaddled, but keeps them swaddled TIGHT through naps and night.
The secret is that there are three flaps of fabric. Two flaps wrap around each of your baby’s arms and UNDER their back. It’s like a baby straight jacket. Your baby’s weight holds the fabric down. This swaddle obviously only works if your baby is sleeping on their back. [If your baby is ever NOT sleeping on their back then you need to stop swaddling immediately]
The third long flap of fabric wraps all around the baby. This helps keep everything contained and ensures nothing comes unraveled.

Tips for How To Swaddle With A Miracle Blanket

- Don’t swaddle arms down until your baby is developmentally ready.
- We find this swaddle is better for babies once they hit 8+lbs
- When you put the small flaps over the arms and under the back- make sure:
- The fabric is smooth without and wrinkles
- The baby’s arm is flush to their side
- The baby’s arm is not UNDER their body
- The baby’s palms are open and fingers not crushed
- Wrap the long section over the arms. If you wrap too high you could wrap their neck and it could come loose, if you wrap too low it can go over their lower belly, hips and legs which isn’t comfortable or recommended.
- The only con about this swaddle is that sometimes babies will kick their legs right out of the bottom flap! If this happens consistently you can consider putting a secondary zipper swaddle or sleep sack over the miracle blanket. Make sure that your baby isn’t too warm and that they still have mobility in their hips and legs
