How to Change a Diaper

As a new parent, changing your newborn’s diaper can be a daunting task. But fear not, with a few simple steps, you’ll be a pro in no time! In this blog post, we’ll go over the basics of how to change a diaper and provide some tips to make the process easier.

First, let’s talk about the supplies you’ll need.

You’ll need a clean diaper, wipes, diaper cream, and a changing pad.

Once you have everything you need, lay your baby down on the changing pad and remove the dirty diaper. Use wipes to clean your baby’s bottom, [being sure to wipe from front to back for babies with a vulva]. Apply diaper cream if necessary, then slide a clean diaper under your baby and fasten the tabs.

Now that you know the basics, let’s dive into some tips to make the process easier.

1. Be sure to have everything you need within arm’s reach before you start. This will prevent you from having to leave your baby unattended on the changing pad.
2. Consider using a diaper pail with a lid to dispose of dirty diapers. This will help keep your nursery smelling fresh and clean.
3. Don’t be afraid to ask for help! Changing a newborn diaper without experience can be a two-person job, especially if your baby is particularly wiggly.

Diaper Fit:

It’s important that a diaper isn’t too tight, or too loose. Too loose and the contents of the diaper will leak out! Too tight can be uncomfortable for your baby, and the diaper won’t be able to contain the contents either.

One way to test fit is to test a [Clean] diaper with two fingers at the waist and at the legs. You should be able to just fit them in comfortably, but without a gap in between.
